Dr. García-Rivera has a master in public health (MPH) with dual concentration in epidemiology and behavioral sciences at Boston University School of Public Health, Massachusetts. She complete her Doctorate in Medicine at UPR Medical Sciences Campus (MSC) School of Medicine and her residency in Family Medicine at University of Puerto Rico Family Medicine Residency Program. Subsequently, she completed a Fellowship in Epidemiology at Dengue Branch, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr. García-Rivera is Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Office of Clinical and Community Health Research (OCCHR) and the Endowed Health Services Research Center (EHSRC). She leads and provides strategic and programmatic supervision of activities of the EHSRC. Coordinate meetings with stakeholders and UPR Medical Sciences Campus leaders for the implementation of educational activities and infrastructure development for health services research. Prepares proposals and identifies funding opportunities for health services training and infrastructure. On the OCCHR, Dr. García-Rivera leads, conducts, and supervise clinical and epidemiological studies including clinical trials and health services research projects, among others; identifies opportunities of collaboration for research development principally with the faculty of the School of Medicine; provides administrative and programmatic supervision of the OCCHR; advises medical faculty, residents, and fellows on research and clinical trial development; leads the development of community-based preventive initiatives including community engagement, community-based participatory research and serves as a liaison with other School of Medicine Programs.
