The School offers Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, and Master of Science degrees. The School also oversees 20 postgraduate medical training programs, with 18 subspecialties, all properly accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. The Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees are granted by the Graduate Programs of the Division of Biomedical Sciences.<\/p>\n

In addition, the School offers the following concurrent degree programs:<\/p>\n

MD-PhD UPR School of Medicine\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Students apply separately to the MD and the PhD program of their choice. Upon admission to both programs, a positive recommendation by the Concurrent Degrees Committee, and approval by the Dean of Medicine, students enter the MD-PhD program. Students spend their first two years at the UPR School of Medicine in the MD program and begin their PhD studies upon completion of all second year requirements, including passing the USMLE Step 1. After completing their PhD requirements, including their Doctoral Dissertation examination, they return to the MD program. Upon completion of the MD program, they receive an MD and a PhD as separate degrees.<\/p>\n

Once they complete the PhD program, they return to the UPR School of Medicine for their fourth year of medical studies.\u00a0Upon completion of each program they receive an MD and a PhD as separate degrees.<\/p>\n

MD-PhD and MD-MS UPR School of Medicine-Mayo Clinic<\/strong>\u2013Students spend their first two years at the UPR School of Medicine and begin their PhD or MS studies at Mayo Graduate School upon completion of all second year requirements. After completing their PhD or MS requirements, they return to the MD program. Upon completion of each program they receive an MD and a PhD or MS as separate degrees.<\/p>\n

MD-JD UPR School of Medicine and UPR School of Law<\/strong> \u2013 Students may spend\u00a0their first two years at either of the two schools. Students that spend the first two years at the UPR School of Law, then start medical school\u00a0and work\u00a0until\u00a0completion of their third year of Medicine. Those that spend the first two years at the UPR School of Medicine, upon completion of the second year begin their law studies at the UPR School of Law and work until completion of\u00a0two years of\u00a0their JD degree. They return to the School of Medicine for their third year of medicine. In both tracks, the final\u00a0year (6th year) is an integrated set of MD and JD requirements. Upon completion of the MD program and JD Program requirements students receive an MD and a JD as separate degrees.<\/p>\n
