The School also oversees 20 postgraduate medical training programs, with 18 subspecialties, all properly accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. The Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees are granted by the Graduate Programs of the Division of Biomedical Sciences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In addition, the School offers the following concurrent degree programs:<\/p>\n<p><strong>MD-PhD UPR School of Medicine\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Students apply separately to the MD and the PhD program of their choice. Upon admission to both programs, a positive recommendation by the Concurrent Degrees Committee, and approval by the Dean of Medicine, students enter the MD-PhD program. Students spend their first two years at the UPR School of Medicine in the MD program and begin their PhD studies upon completion of all second year requirements, including passing the USMLE Step 1. After completing their PhD requirements, including their Doctoral Dissertation examination, they return to the MD program. Students that spend the first two years at the UPR School of Law, then start medical school\u00a0and work\u00a0until\u00a0completion of their third year of Medicine. Those that spend the first two years at the UPR School of Medicine, upon completion of the second year begin their law studies at the UPR School of Law and work until completion of\u00a0two years of\u00a0their JD degree. They return to the School of Medicine for their third year of medicine. In both tracks, the final\u00a0year (6th year) is an integrated set of MD and JD requirements.
