{"id":1005,"date":"2021-02-02T09:28:54","date_gmt":"2021-02-02T13:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/md.rcm.upr.edu\/obigyn\/?page_id=1005"},"modified":"2022-03-03T09:51:14","modified_gmt":"2022-03-03T13:51:14","slug":"ob-gyn-residency-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/md.rcm.upr.edu\/obigyn\/ob-gyn-residency-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Ob-Gyn Residency Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine (UPR) Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine is a well-balanced program with a Continuous Accreditation given by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).\u00a0 It is a four-year residency program with a maximum of 5 residents per year.\u00a0 Our program participates in ERAS and in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).\u00a0 The residents are selected on the basis of their application, medical school transcript, at least two letters of recommendation, a highly recommended rotation, and personal interview.<\/p>\n<p>The program is intended to provide a comprehensive education in obstetrics and gynecology, and to ensure that the candidate upon completion will be skilled in women\u2019s primary care, gynecologic surgery, normal and high risk obstetrics, as well as the needed skills in urogynecology, reproductive endocrinology, and gynecologic oncology that will require a general OBGYN practice.\u00a0 It also seeks to provide Ob-Gyn physicians with the ability to meet the changes and challenges that they will face throughout their professional careers, and prepare them to become fully certified by ABOG (American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology).\u00a0 In order to accomplish with the requirements, the program has established general goals and objectives, as well as specific objectives for each clinical rotation based on the ACGME six core competencies and milestones.<\/p>\n<p>The Obstetrics and Gynecology Curriculum is designed to comply with the CREOG Educational Objectives (12<sup>th<\/sup> Edition) described by the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG), and framed in the Competencies and Milestones of the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).\u00a0 The program outlines the general goals and objectives for our residency program to produce highly trained providers in women health.\u00a0 The program is dynamic and provides ample opportunities with the proper instruction for residents to achieve the knowledge, skills and behavior needed for the practice of the Obstetrics and Gynecology competent and independently.<\/p>\n<p>We emphasize in a well round resident, nurturing personal growth and development, focusing on ethics, communication skills, information management, evidence-based medicine, continuing medical education, research, teaching, diversity and inclusion, management of stress and wellness.<\/p>\n<p>Upon completion of the program, each resident will have achieved:<\/p>\n<p>-an enriched education in all aspects of obstetrics, gynecology, and women\u2019s health<\/p>\n<p>-comprehensive training in all aspects of the primary and preventive care of women<\/p>\n<p>-expertise in obstetrics and in gynecology, including adequate experience in high risk obstetrics, gynecologic oncology, gynecologic endocrinology, and urogynecology that will be needed in a well-rounded general OBGYN practice or before entering a sub specialty training.<\/p>\n<p>-expertise in the care of patients with diverse backgrounds<\/p>\n<p>-full responsibility and authority for patient care decisions, enabling you to function as an independent practitioner<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Master Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Master Program is a composite of clinical experiences provided for the resident to ensure exposure in Obstetrics and Gynecology in order to comply with the CREOG Educational Objectives.\u00a0 As the learning needs change, the Master Program continues to transform.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PGY 1 \u2013 <\/strong>Labor Room, Ante Partum Ward, Gyn Clinics, Floater, Ob Emergency Room,<\/p>\n<p>Labor Room and Floater at Carolina Hospital<\/p>\n<p><strong>PGY 2<\/strong> &#8211; Labor Room, Ante Partum Ward, Gyn Clinics, Floater, Ob Emergency Room,<\/p>\n<p>Floater at Carolina Hospital, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and<\/p>\n<p>Gynecologic Oncology at Comprehensive Cancer Center Hospital<\/p>\n<p><strong>PGY 3 &#8211; <\/strong>Labor Room, Ante Partum Ward, Gyn Clinics and Procedures, Floater,<\/p>\n<p>Gynecology Oncology, Out Patient Rotation (Carolina Hospital, Auxilio Mutuo<\/p>\n<p>Hospital, Presbiterian Hospital, Metropolitan Hospital)<\/p>\n<p><strong>PGY 4<\/strong> &#8211;
