In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Equitable Breakthroughs in Medicine Development (EQBMED) organization highlighted Dr. Emma Fern\u00e1ndez-Repollet\u2019s leadership in the RCMI Center for Collaborative Research in Health Disparities at the UPR Medical Sciences Campus and the RCMI Coordinating Center at Morehouse School of Medicine.<\/p>\n

EQBMED is led by the Yale School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the RCMI Coordinating Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This collaborative alliance works to increase participation from underserved communities in clinical trials and medical research by enhancing awareness, addressing misinformation and historical mistrust, and ensuring trials are easily accessible and sustainable. Dr. Fern\u00e1ndez-Repollet is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the UPR School of Medicine.<\/p>\n

Having been recognized with numerous awards, including the Distinguished Puerto Rican Women in STEM honor from G Works, Inc., and the Amgen Foundation, we are highlighting Dr. Emma Fernandez-Repollet \u2013 a member of the EQBMED Advisory Committee and a distinguished leader in the field of physiology and minority health research. Since joining the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus in 1982, Dr. Fernandez-Repollet has significantly contributed to the University\u2019s teaching and research, and has been instrumental in developing research infrastructure through the Research Centers in Minority Institutions \u00a0Coordinating Center (RCMI-CC) program.<\/p>\n
