Biography:
Dr. Alfonso has been an Associate Professor in the Neurology Section of the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus since 2000. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, she received her Medical Degree from The University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus in 1991. She completed her internship in 1987 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, followed by a residency in Neurology at The University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus (1990), where she was Neurology Chief Resident (1989). In 1991, Dr. Alfonso completed a Fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine and Electromyography, also at The University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. Dr. Alfonso is Board Certified in Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine.
A member of the Neurology faculty, Dr. Alfonso is involved in the teaching of Neurology residents and medical students. She is a consultant at the Adults University Hospital, the Cardiovascular Hospital, and with the Faculty Practice Plan – School of Medicine, University of Puerto Rico, Ambulatory Clinics. Dr. Alfonso is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and has been a Fellow since 1992. She is also a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular Medicine and Electrodiagnostic, the Puerto Rican Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Padilla has participated in several clinical trials and is fluent in Spanish and English.
