The Neurology Division is part of the largest Academic Health Sciences Center in Puerto Rico. As an integral part of the School of Medicine within The University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, the Neurology Division provides services in clinical neurology. Our patient population is largely Hispanic, a group most often has a higher level of burden of neurological diseases, at all possible stages. As a result, our medical students and neurology residents and fellows have unique opportunities to develop exceptional clinical skills in the tradition of clinical neurology.
Our Neurology faculty have a special commitment to serve patients who have the greatest need and are at the greatest health risk. Committed to working in resource-limited environments while making a huge impact on the lives of patients, often with the most basic interventions. They represent all of the major neurology subspecialties, many having trained in some of the best neurology residency and fellowship programs in the mainland. The Neurology Section represents the largest multi-specialty neurology group in the whole Island of Puerto Rico. A closely knit program, students, residents and fellows are provided the warmth of a large family, working together to make an impact and impart a sense of compromise and responsibility to those in need.
The Neurology Residency program is a fully ACGME-accredited, offering excellent hands-on training in clinical neurology. Our residents acquire extensive clinical experience in a wide variety of settings ranging from tertiary hospital-based care community hospitals. The Neurology Fellowship is also a fully accredited ACGME approved fellowship program in neuromuscular medicine. The Neurology Fellowship Program has a close collaboration with the Pediatric Neurology Fellowship program, providing an additional superb experience in pediatric neurology.
