Welcome to the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, Program of Opportunities for Recovery with Integrated Treatment (PORTI, Spanish acronym).
We are delighted to introduce you to the PORTI program, a collaborative initiative between the Mental Health and Addiction Services Administration (ASSMCA) and the Psychiatry Department at our esteemed institution. The PORTI program aims to identify and provide specialized psychiatric treatment for those young individuals experiencing a first psychotic episode (FEP). PORTI gathers a team of trained specialists that apply evidence-based guidelines established by the RAISE initiative to bring early intervention and an opportunity for recovery and quality of life. These treatment guidelines have been adapted to best suit our population in need. Other objectives include training young multidisciplinary professionals in the model and participating in research that could advance the care provided on our island.
We understand that experiencing a first psychotic episode can be challenging and anguishing. Our program is here to support you on your journey toward recovery. The PORTI program is based on the Specialized Coordinated Care model, which focuses on holistic recovery, reducing hospitalizations, and promoting integration into the community and workforce with the support and participation of your family and/or care system.
Our program is specifically designed for adolescents and young adults who have been experiencing unusual thoughts and behaviors and have started hearing or seeing things. We want to assure you that you are not alone in this experience, and with the right treatment and support, you can feel better and regain control over your life.
The PORTI program offers a range of comprehensive treatments tailored to your individual needs, with the goal of helping you achieve a better quality of life and functional integration into the community. Our team consists of dedicated psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, a study and work, and peer specialists committed to providing you with the necessary support to effectively navigate and manage your experiences.
When you participate in the PORTI program, you will receive personalized medical care and support based on your goals and individual decisions. Our team will conduct regular interviews to monitor your symptoms, provide emotional support, and ensure you receive the appropriate care. We also offer support for your family and access to additional services that may be deemed necessary for your recovery.
If you are between the ages of 16 and 35 and have experienced unusual thoughts and behaviors, such as seeing things that others may not, we invite you to reach out to us. The PORTI program provides you with the support and resources you need to regain control of your life, improve your abilities and skills, pursue your educational and vocational goals, and enjoy meaningful relationships with your family and friends.
