Welcome to the Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.

Our division counts with a dynamic group of 6 pediatric surgeons with varied niches of interest within the pediatric surgical field. The division provides care for 3.2 million Puerto Ricans and other Caribbean islanders in the only supratertiary, standalone, pediatric hospital in Puerto Rico, the University Pediatric Hospital. The hospital houses a 50-bed level IV neonatal intensive care unit, 16-bed pediatric intensive care unit, state of the art imaging center and operating room. We have a very dedicated group of multispecialty physicians with which we provide high quality, multidisciplinary care for a wide range of congenital anomalies, pediatric surgical oncology, chest wall deformities, pediatric burn care, gastrointestinal and thoracic disorders among others.

The pediatric surgery division supports the UPR School of Medicine in the training of general surgery residents from our ACGME accredited residency program. We also participate in the training of general surgery clerkship and sub-internship medical students. The learners get a chance to participate in team building activities, clinical care, research design, and quality improvement initiatives.

We are proud to continue promoting a long-standing culture of commitment to high quality surgical education and the moral values associated with the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.
