Welcome to the University of Puerto Rico Emergency Medicine Residency Program website. Since its conception on 1993 as the first Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Puerto Rico, our program has strived to train the best emergency physicians that will become tomorrow leaders in emergency medicine. We are shaping the future of Emergency Medicine in Puerto Rico, the United States and abroad.
Our 3 year program is based on the University of Puerto Rico Hospital, a 250 beds hospital located in Carolina, PR. Our Emergency Department have approximately 50,000 visits per year, with an outstanding mix of pediatric, adult, and trauma patients for training.
Our Emergency Medicine faculty is composed of 13 board certified Emergency Physicians who are fully committed to the education of our residents. Among our faculty qualifications are sub specialist in: EMS, ultrasound, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, teaching; master in public health and clinical research. In addition to clinical, teaching and research responsibilities, our faculty is responsible to monitor resident’s wellbeing one of the department highest priorities. Our faculty also has been very active in the development of Emergency Medicine in Central and South America.
