Faculty and students from the Microbiology Department participate in the RCMI Consortium National Conference 2024, sharing their latest results on basic and translational projects with emergent topics of interest to Puerto Rico and the region.
The emergent areas of research within the microbiology Department is multifaceted. It involves leveraging microbial research to understand basic mechanisms of disease in minority populations. This includes identifying microbial patterns unique to these communities, understanding the role of the microbiome in disease susceptibility, finding new drug therapeutics and new molecules within the gut-brain axis, and translating this knowledge into targeted interventions.
We celebrate the work of Drs. Serrano, Melendez, Cantres, and Martinez for their commitment and for representing the Department in this important national event.
Keep up the good work!
