
Dr. Filipa Godoy was honored with the Arturo Carrión Memorial Lecture Award 2025, in recognition of her outstanding scientific contributions to microbiology in Puerto Rico. The award was presented by the local branch of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Sociedad de Microbiólogos de Puerto Rico (SMPR). This distinction highlights the values and ethics embodied by Dr. Arturo Carrión—an extraordinary Puerto Rican physician and a pioneer in medical mycology and dermatology whose influence extended throughout the international scientific community.
During her lecture, Dr. Godoy reflected on her 13-year independent journey as a principal investigator and group leader, sharing the challenges and accomplishments that have shaped her career, and her efforts to advance microbiome research across the Caribbean and Latin America, aiming to build scientific capacity and foster regional collaboration.
