segundo_rodriguezColon and rectal surgeons are dedicated to the science and practice of the treatment of patients with diseases and disorders affecting the colon, rectum and anus.

This is one of our newest divisions at our surgery department. Residents are very enthusiastic during their CRS rotations, designed for PGY3 and PGY5 residents.

Their rotation is divided into teams lead by our Board Certified faculty. Among the surgical exposure; office procedures in CRS in the attending’s office, laparoscopic surgery, open abdominal surgery, proctologic procedures, anorectal physiology and a large referral center for recto-vaginal fistula repair. A large volume of our cases are colorectal cancer that is treated at the Oncologic Hospital at the Medical Center.

Recently we’ve had several Surgical Residents that train in Colorectal Surgery Fellowships and we expect some of them to return to the department as young faculty.

Thousands of colon and rectal surgeries have been done at the Puerto Rico Medical Center over the decades. As Chief of the Department and head of the Colon and Rectal Surgery division, Dr. Rodríguez-Quilichini will lead the surgical treatment of patients with colon and rectal diseases during the new millennium.
