Dr. Armando Luis Oliver completed his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Following his medical degree, he pursued a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. After his residency, Dr. Oliver undertook advanced fellowship training in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, followed by a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Boston Medical Center.

Currently, Dr. Oliver serves as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, a position he has held since July 2021. In addition to his role as chairman, he has been an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the same institution since 2006. His clinical and academic interests lie in retinal diseases, uveitis, and systemic diseases with ocular manifestations, with a special focus on clinical research. Over the years, Dr. Oliver has been involved in mentoring students and residents, contributing significantly to the field of ophthalmology through his publications and leadership.

Dr. Oliver has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, covering a wide range of topics, including cerebral vasculitis, Birdshot chorioretinitis, and retinitis pigmentosa. He continues to be a key figure in advancing ophthalmic research, serving as a reviewer for multiple prominent journals. His work has been presented at both national and international conferences, and his contributions have been widely recognized within the ophthalmic community.
