The Vision of the Psychiatry Department of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine is to improve the mental health of Puerto Rico through education, research, and cutting-edge clinical care.

The Mission of the Psychiatry Department of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine is to promote research and offer excellent clinical care to people of all ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Care, treatment, and service will be delivered through a sequence of processes in coordinated and completed phases. These processes include an initial needs screening/assessment, developing a treatment plan, care, and services, and a reassessment on an ongoing basis to assess the response to the care, treatment, and services offered until needs are met, to the best of our ability. The goal is to provide all members of the health team and at all levels with the procedures to be activated from the preparation of the service to the arrival of the patient, during the stay, preparation for discharge, the discharge process, and follow-up through referral or transfer to another level of continuity of care, treatment, and services.
