The Urology Residency program at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine consists of five years of post-graduate fully accredited training program. The program is structured to expose Resident physicians to multiple aspects of clinical and academic Urology and become proficient in the process of diagnosis and treatment of such conditions. Residents participate in daily activities of each service with active involvement in diagnostic evaluation of urology patients, pre and post operative care, diagnosis and management of hospitalized patients with multiple urological conditions, and performing and assisting in the operating room in minor and major, open, laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. General urology clinics are held three times per week where residents are exposed to an immense variety of urological conditions. The residency program is located at Puerto Rico Medical Center, a supra-tertiary medical facility providing advanced medical services for the almost four million people living in the Island.

In general, the residents at the Urology Section of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine are exposed to different rotations within affiliated institutions to our program. Adult general urology rotations are conducted at University District Hospital, San Juan Veterans Administration Medical Center, UPR Hospital in Carolina, HIMA San Pablo and Bayamon Medical Center. Pediatric urology rotations are conducted at the University District Pediatric Hospital and HIMA San Pablo in Caguas. The rotations by year are as follow:

3 months at University District Hospital

6 months at General Surgery

3 months at HIMA San Pablo/Bayamon Medical Center

6 months at University District Hospital

6 months at HIMA San Pablo/Bayamon Medical Center

6 months at University Pediatric Hospital/HIMA San Pablo Caguas

6 months at UPR Hospital in Carolina

6 months at University District Hospital
