Welcome to the Interventional Pain Management Service at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology
Since its establishment in August 2005, our service has remained dedicated to providing comprehensive pain management for surgical and medically complex patients across the perioperative spectrum. Available 24/7, our team responds to consultations from surgical teams, anesthesiologists, internal medicine services, and other specialties.
We specialize in evidence-based, multimodal approaches to acute pain management, including:
- Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA)
- Epidural and Intrathecal Infusions
- Continuous Regional Nerve Blocks
- Chronic Opioid and Cancer Pain Consultations
These techniques enhance comfort, reduce opioid reliance, and promote faster recovery. Our service plays an essential role in discharge planning, mobility, and improved clinical outcomes, particularly in elderly or high-risk surgical populations.
Pain management is a collaborative effort that requires continuous communication between nurses, physicians, and specialists. Our mission is to deliver safe, effective, and individualized care while fostering excellence in education, procedural skills, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
We look forward to supporting our patients, colleagues, and the wider healthcare community in advancing the quality of perioperative pain relief.
