Location

The Molecular Pathology Laboratory is located in the third floor at the School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Suite B-342, Medical Sciences Campus Building (Dr. Guillermo Arbona-Irizarry Bldg.) on the Puerto Rico Medical Center Grounds.

 

Working Hours

The regular working hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

 

Purpose and Service

The Molecular Pathology Laboratory of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Puerto Rico is a clinical laboratory that specializes in the research and leading edge application of molecular biology in the evaluation of Human papillomavirus, N. gonorrhoeae and C. trachomatis.  The laboratory currently investigates the prognostic significance of biomarkers and how these infections affect the Puerto Rican Population.  We also specialize in having the capacity to evaluate the presence of mutations (KRAS, BRAF and EGFR) in tumors samples in order to provide an accurate diagnosis the results in a more personalized treatment approach.

The laboratory started in 2013, as a core facility of the Medical Sciences Campus as a research center and also a provider for testing services to patients in the academic and general medical community.

Currently we offer insightful diagnostic and prognostic testing in obstetrics and oncology with the following specialized services:

  1. HPV High Risk Genotyping (16, 18 and other high risk genotypes).
  2. CT/HG Test
  3. BRAF V600E Mutation Test
  4. KRAS Mutation Test
  5. EGFR Mutation Test

TAT: 1 week (90% of cases)
