The RCMI Program is pleased to announce that Gregory Quirk, Ph.D., a professor at Department of Psychiatry, UPR School of Medicine and RCMI Key Activity Director of the Pilot Project Program, has been selected by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to receive a Method to Extend Research in Time (MERIT) award for his application RO1 MH05883-17.

Dr. Quirk’s nomination by NIMHD program staff, was concurrently and favorably recommended by the National Advisory Mental Health Council.. According to NIH Reporter, this is the first MERIT ever awarded to a scientist based in Puerto Rico.

The MERIT award provides long-term grant support (10 years) to investigators whose research competence and productivity are distinctly superior and who are highly likely to continue to perform in an outstanding manner. The purpose of the award is to foster their continued creativity. Congratulations to Dr. Quirk on this extraordinary achievement!
