PhD Admission Requirements
Academic Background
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- For Microbiology, degree must be in the natural sciences.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (overall and in required science/math courses).
- Completion of all science and math prerequisite courses for the selected program.
Application Materials
- 3 recommendation letters (at least 2 from professors or research supervisors).
- Essay in English (250–400 words) outlining your interest in the program.
- Official transcripts from all institutions attended.
Additional Requirements
- Interview with faculty from the program.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Payment of application and submission of all required documents.
Research Experience (Optional but Strongly Valued)
Applicants with prior research experience should provide supporting evidence such as:
- Research summaries
- Manuscripts
- Presentations or other outputs
FINANCIAL AID:
Teaching and Research Assistantships are available through the Dean of Academic Affairs. Information on other financial aid is available through the Office of Financial Aid. However, students are encouraged to apply and submit predoctoral fellowships from federal agencies and private sources.
