Description: Pulmonary Disease Medicine encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of clinical problems affecting the respiratory system and other vital organ systems. It is incumbent on the resident in training in Internal Medicine to develop competence in the recognition and management of conditions affecting this system in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting, and to allocate and understand the adequate technological resources available to diagnose and treat them in a timely and humane fashion. There should be an added emphasis in acquiring skills in team management, quality of care, interpretation of physiological, radiographical, and microbiology, and pathology data, and to obtain proficiency in several procedures pertaining to the proper management of patients with pulmonary diseases.
