The minimum number of credits required for the M.S. degree is 30, 24 credits in course work and 6 credits in thesis research. Nine credits may be transferred from an accredited institution. The minimum number of credits required for the Ph.D degree is 60, 45 credits in course work, and 15 in thesis research. A maximum of 24 credits – 11- taken at another accredited institution may be transferred, subject to approval by the Department, and the Graduate Committee.
A minor, as such, is not required. The research committee will decide the courses required in each particular case. Individual department requirements must still be met, even if these result in substantially exceeding the total number of required course credits.
